Shortly after a crash, an adjuster for the other side may call and ask to record a statement. It is presented as routine. It is not neutral.
What to know
- You are generally not required to give a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer.
- Statements are used to evaluate and sometimes limit or deny claims.
- Early on, you may not know the full extent of your injuries. Saying "I'm fine" can be used against you later.
- Your own insurer may require cooperation under your policy. That is different from the other side's insurer.
A simple approach
It is fine to give basic contact details and say you will follow up. Then talk with a lawyer before saying more. Consultations with the firm are free.
